Rafael broke the deadlock with six minutes remaining to earn three huge points for Omiya in the Saitama derby. Kofu took full advantage of Urawa's loss to storm past them in the table and Niigata, too, earned another much-needed victory. There was drama at the top as well as Nagoya crushed Gamba and Kashiwa went first again with a narrow victory over Yamagata.
Omiya Ardija started Saturday's match at Saitama Stadium with a three point advantage over Urawa and had doubled it to six, with only five games remaining, by the end of the afternoon. Omiya have now lost only two of their last eight J1 games and Urawa, winless in eight, slipped into the relegation zone to complete an extraordinary seven days of highs and lows that began with their semi-final win over league leaders Gamba Osaka at the same stadium in the J. League Yamazaki Nabisco Cup the previous Sunday! Urawa manager Zeljko Petrovic announced at the post-match press conference that he intends to battle on for the last five league matches of the season but will stand down after that. - http://www.j-league.or.jp
