Fukuoka University is disappointed

12BET news update for Oct 12, 2011

Omiya's former Japan international Chikara Fujimoto smacked his spot kick against the post and Fukuoka midfielder Kyohei Kuroki held his nerve to sweep home the decisive penalty and seal a famous victory.

"We have outdone ourselves," said Fukuoka manager Masahiro Inui. "We stayed calm in the shootout and the players delivered a fantastic performance."

Kota Ueda fired Omiya in front on 70 minutes with a stunning free kick, but the Squirrels' lead lasted just two minutes as Tomohiro Tanaka snatched a shock equalizer, volleying in from the edge of the box after Yosuke Kataoka could only half clear a high ball into the area.
Both sides had chances to win it in normal time, Ueda rattling the woodwork with another set piece and Yu Tamura blasting over a great chance at the other end with 10 minutes left.
Yusuke Muta cleared a shot off the line from Omiya substitute Lee Chun Soo with two minutes remaining in extra time and Fukuoka held firm to take the game to a shootout.
Fukuoka will face second-division Shonan Bellmare in the next round.
In Monday's only other game involving a club from the top flight, Ryota Morioka scored a hat-trick as Vissel Kobe demolished amateur side Sanyo Electric Sumoto 8-0.
