Premier League champions Manchester City will visit their Eredivisie counterparts Ajax for their third UEFA Champions League Group D fixture. The match will be a highly important one for both sides, as they fill the bottom portion of arguably the most difficult group in the league – City being third with one point from a draw and a loss and Ajax being last with zero points from two losses.
Evading defeat will be the main objective of Ajax and Manchester City in the match. Both are currently unbeaten in their domestic leagues this season, although their current standings in the Champions League reflect that they are both struggling to succeed in the group stage.

City have not yet played past through rival Dutch side Ajax yet, although they fare better as favourites in the Champions League with one draw from their match against Borussia Dortmund. Confronted with a challenge to qualify this time compared to their failed bid last season, they possess a strong forward force manned by the likes of Edin Dzeko, Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero – good enough to penetrate the weak defence of Ajax that has already conceded five goals in the competition.
