9GAG Failure: Marquez Lucky Punch KOs Pacquiao

THE LATEST SPORTS BETTING NEWS – A right hook punch from Juan Manuel “Dinamita” Marquez many call as the “lucky punch” was all it took to bring down eight-division champion Manny Pacquiao in their fourth encounter at the MGM Grand Hotel on Saturday night.

Pacquiao, otherwise known as the “Pacman”, fell down to Marquez on the third round before resurging on the fifth through a knockdown on his Mexican rival. Marquez’ right-hand blow on the sixth round knocked out Pacquiao face down.

The result saw Pacquiao’s failure to leave a footpr1nt on fourth match against his staunchest career rival Marquez. The Filipino did not point to retirement as a possible option, despite calls for him to bow down finally from the sport.

South Korean Jiyai Shin wins British Open to give Asia a clean swepp in female majors

The future which golf had long prophesised arrived in emphatic style at Hoylake yesterday. Jiyai Shin won the Ricoh Women's British Open to make it an Asian-clean sweep of the female majors in 2012.

In fact, this was seven in succesion for Asia and, appropriately enough, it wasn’t even close. Shin, who followed up her victory in 2008 at Sunningdale, won by a record nine shots, reminding observers of Tiger Woods at the 2000 US Open at Pebble Beach by recording the only score under par.
“It was a long, long, very tough day,” said the Korean. “I thought my skill was not good enough for this links but now I think this course was made for me.”
What a performance this was by Shin, in conditions which were hardly inviting. The contestants completed a 36-hole marathon yesterday after 60mph winds had cancelled Friday’s action. Hoylake was playable but still awfully demanding, as all of the scorecards proved — apart from Shin’s.
She went into the day five clear after a stunning second-round 64 on Saturday – the lowest score of the week by four – and won the £265,000 first prize with rounds of 71 and 73.
Those hauled the 24 year-old to nine-under-par for what was her second victory in seven days. Last Monday she beat American Paula Creamer after a nine-hole play-off at a LPGA event in Virginia.

RIVALRY BETWEEN JUVENTUS AND NAPOLI EXTENDS TO COPPA ITALIA 2012 FINAL

Juventus and Napoli are set to face one another in this year’s Coppa Italia Final. The match will light the fire of northern and southern Italy’s rivalry once again, as the north’s Juventus hosts the Coppa Italia final with visiting Napoli from the south aiming to win against Italy’s strongest football club.

Juventus is a powerful contender for this match, beating Milan with an aggregate score of 4-3 in the semi-finals to reach the finals. It also became the third team in the history of the Serie A to go on undefeated the whole season when it won this year’s title. It is also Italy’s most successful football club, gaining the most titles and supporters throughout its history.

Napoli, on the other hand, will not take the pressure lightly. The Azzurri is capable of competing against the mighty Old Lady. Napoli did not lose to Juventus in 4 matches before its recent defeat versus the Turin-based club in this year’s Serie A. The Naples-based club enjoyed 3-1 and 3-0 wins and maintained two draws against Juventus in the Serie A matches of 2010/2011 and 2011/2012, respectively.

Can Juventus win the double this season or will Napoli win for the first time since 1987?

J-League Review: Vegalta take league lead with sweeping win over Cerezo

Roaring winds and driving rain across eastern Japan lead to several surprising results, reminding observers that as always there's no such thing as a sure leader in the J-League

osaka_nagai2.jpg (300×196)

The nearly 10,000 fans that braved the rain at Osaka's Nagai Stadium were in for a treat, with Cerezo hosting high-flying Vegalta Sendai. Both teams had surrendered just one goal going into this weekend, but the home team found themselves at a disadvantage after having to give two defenders, Tatsuya Yamashita and Masato Kurogi, their first start of the season.

Cerezo's first solid chance came in the 16th minute when Hiroshi Kiyotake's volley deflected off a defender before hitting the crossbar. Vegalta responded minutes later as Yoshiaki Ota forced a fine save by Kim Jin-Hyon. The visitors finally broke the deadlock in the 34th minute on the counter when Brazilian attacker Wilson stuffed in a rebound for his first J1 goal. Cerezo attempted to spur on a second-half comeback by bringing on super-sub Ryuji Bando and switching to two upfront. But Vegalta doubled their lead after Ota again broke down the opposition, sending a cross past Kim to a waiting Shingo Akamine who headed the ball in.

The hosts pressed the attack and Bando even took back a late goal to make it 2-1, but despite five minutes of extra time Vegalta's defence did not falter and the northern club would end the day alone at the top of the league table.

Omiya Ardija Vs Nagoya Grampus Eight football match preview

Nagoya players, as we said in the previous round have found their play style; this time they defeated Niigata, which improved their tournament position and moved them up to the 7th place. Nagoya players could struggle for the place in the top 5; therefore they should not have plans to give up the match to Omya on home ground today.

Omya has been smashed on home ground by Kawasaki with 5:0 score and has placed at the 11th place of the tournament list with 13 points; if the team does not improve the quality of play it might loose this position too. In the last 5 rounds the hosts have won 3, drawn 1 and lost just 1 match. As for guests, in the last 5 rounds they have won 2, drawn 1 and lost 2 matches.

Gotze to earn €4.6m per year while Dortmund close in on Kagawa extension - report

The 19-year-old signed a deal until 2016 and will receive a lucrative pay rise while the Japan star is set to sign a new contract with the German champions

Mario-Goetze-1.jpg (320×240)

Borussia Dortmund are seriously committed to retaining their stars, and according to Bild, have made Mario Gotze their highest-paid player.

On Tuesday, Gotze signed a two-year contract extension that will see him remain with the Ruhr side until 2016, and now it is alleged that the Germany international will receive wages in the amount of €4.6 million per year.

The value exceeds any of his team-mates, and is a substantial increase over his previous deal, which amounted to approximately €1m per annum.

Having tied down Gotze, Dortmund are now determined to reach a new deal with Shinji Kagawa. The Japan international's contract is set to expire in 2013, and the player will reportedly extend his stay in the next few days.

Dortmund have been keen to tie down their stars, with Gotze, Neven Subotic, Mats Hummels, Lukasz Piszczek and Sven Bender under contract until 2014 or later.

Marco Reus, who will be a BVB player on July 1, has also committed his long-term future to the club, having penned a deal to 2017.

Kashima Antlers Vs Kawasaki Frontale match preview

Kawasaki started with a narrow 1-0 win over Niigata in the first game of the season last week, but had to work hard for it and did not seem in top condition. Kashima lost 1-0 away to Sendai in an emotional game one year after the earthquake and tsunami that hit the Sendai area. Both teams need more time to settle and create understanding.

Kashima - with a new coach and many changes in the playing area looked far from a team. Nozawa, having moved to Vissel Kobe, will be missed on set pieces and this could have a big negative effect on the team. Kawasaki will be happy with a first win and three points last week but they, too, were far from being ready to challenge for honours this season.

Besiktas vs Atletico de Madrid English Liga match preview

Besiktas have won just three times in 14 games against Spanish sides, all of which came on home soil. (W3 D3 L9) The Black Eagles last reached the quarter-finals of this competition in 2002/03, where they lost to Lazio. Besiktas are not enjoying their finest spell of form, having only won twice in their last 11 fixtures in all competitions.

Atletico Madrid's only defeat against Super Lig opposition was a 1-0 loss to Ankaragucu in the second leg of a 1999/00 UEFA Cup first round tie. Los Colchoneros have only been defeated on the road once in their last eight European games. Udinese earned a 2-0 win at Stadio Friuli in this year's Europa League group stage. Radamel Falcao needs just two more goals to match current leading goalscorer, the eliminated Matias Suarez. The Colombian also has one less strike than Schalke's Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, who still remains in the tournament.

Lee finalizes move to Southampton

LONDON — Japan striker Tadanari Lee has signed a two-and-a-half-year deal with Southampton with the option of a further year, the second-tier English Championship club said Wednesday.
"The 26-year-old put pen to paper after rejecting several advances from top flight European sides, and will be immediately available for selection," Southampton said.
"He could therefore make his debut in Saturday's F.A. Cup fourth round tie at Millwall."
Japanese players have had limited success in England, but Lee — who is of South Korean descent, but became a naturalized Japanese citizen in 2007 so that he could play at the Beijing Olympics — is determined to impress from the outset.
"I want to help the team to great things," Lee said in a statement through the Saints. "We all want to get to the Premier League, and I am the same. I hope that I can show the fans that they can trust me to play my best for the club at all times."-http://www.japantimes.co.jp

Frontale counting on Nakamura to fill leadership role

KAWASAKI — An 11th-place finish last season suggests Kawasaki Frontale's days as a J. League championship contender are over, but playmaker Kengo Nakamura is refusing to go quietly as the club prepares for another tilt at a first-ever title.

Frontale went into last year's campaign having finished each of the previous five seasons in the top five, claiming the runnerup spot three times to establish themselves firmly among the division's heavyweights. But a rash of high-profile departures and the arrival of rookie manager Naoki Soma hinted that 2011 would be a year of transition, and so it proved as a run of eight straight defeats over the summer derailed the Kanagawa club's title challenge.

Now, with long-serving striker Juninho leaving over the winter, Frontale's prospects look anything but clear. More responsibility than ever will rest on the shoulders of midfield inspiration Nakamura, and the 31-year-old admits he is unsure what to expect.- http://www.japantimes.co.jp

Big crowd pays tribute to Matsuda

Yokohama — A crowd of over 40,000 turned out Sunday to watch Hidetoshi Nakata and other former Japan teammates of the late Naoki Matsuda play in a memorial match for the former defender, who passed away last summer aged just 34.

Current and former players of Yokohama F. Marinos, where Matsuda spent most of his career, as well as players of newly promoted second-division club Matsumoto Yamaga also took part in the event at Nissan Stadium, Yokohama's home ground.

All of the players who took part in the match, including Nakata and Tsuneyasu Miyamoto, who played alongside Matsuda in defense at the 2002 World Cup, formed Matsuda's No. 3 squad number on the pitch and the match was preceded with a moment's silence.

"It has to take something pretty special to be able to get players like these here," said Nakata, who retired from international soccer after the 2006 World Cup in Germany. "I was never far away from Matsu (Matsuda) after getting to know him at 14 years old. We both spoke our minds but he didn't hide anything and that made me feel comfortable. I think we were a great combo."- http://www.japantimes.co.jp

Saitama — Urawa Reds said Tuesday they have brought back Japan midfielder Yuki Abe from second-tier English Championship side Leicester City.

The 30-year-old Abe had canceled his contract with Leicester City to get back to his family in Japan.
Abe joined Leicester City from Urawa in the summer of 2010 and scored two goals in a total of 52 league matches in England.

Equally effective in defense or a holding midfield role, Abe helped Japan reach the second round of the World Cup finals in South Africa in 2010. He has been capped 53 times for the national team.

Mark Milligan returns to the A-League for the Victory

Melbourne Victory have signed former Socceroo defender Mark Milligan to the club on a loan until the end of the A-League season. The move, subject to an International Transfer Certificate, comes after the end of the J-League where Milligan’s side JEF United, in Japan’s J-League 2, finished sixth and made the quarter-finals of the Emperor’s Cup.

The 26 year-old said, “The Japanese season has finished up now, so rather than have an extended break, I was really keen to get back to the A-League and Melbourne Victory was a very attractive option for me.” “Playing overseas really heightens your interest in the domestic game back home, so I’ve been keeping a close eye on the A-League since I moved away a few years ago, and I’m really excited to be back until the end of the season.” “Hopefully I can help get the club’s season back-on-track. The Melbourne Victory fans are the most passionate in the country so it will be great to play in front of them again, only this time as a Victory player,” Milligan added. Melbourne Victory Coach, Jim Magilton, said he was eager to see the former Olyroos captain in action.- http://www.theroar.com.au
