Sitting out Of the AIM 2012 Thrill: Torres on Bench during Chelsea’s UEFA Champions League Defeat

THE LATEST UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE NEWS – An unhappy Fernando Torres sat on the bench during Chelsea’s Champions League loss to Juventus on Tuesday.

Torres has remained in lacklustre form after failing to replicate his goal-scoring Liverpool persona since his transfer to Stamford Bridge. His absence further led Juventus to win w1th ease against a striker-less Chelsea, leaving the London club to struggle after winning last year’s title.

Atletico Madrid expressed interest in signing their former striker this January. Chelsea might bid to sign for the La Liga side’s striker Radamel Falcao in return.

Just Like Failure at AIM 2012: Galatasaray Win over Man Utd in UEFA Champions League

THE LATEST UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE NEWS – Manchester United took their Norwich City-style defeat to Europe as their second-string squad lost to hosts Galatasaray 1-0 in Tuesday’s Champions League game.

While neither Galatasaray nor United appeared to win w1th ease, Burak Yilmaz’ goal and attempts from Hamit Altintop placed the Turkish hosts on the forefront. Nick Powell gave the closest chance for the Red Devils through a deflected header.

The defeat cost United their first loss in this season’s race to become champions of Europe. They remain on top of the table with 12 points after four wins.

Premier League champions Manchester City will visit their Eredivisie counterparts Ajax for their third UEFA Champions League Group D fixture. The match will be a highly important one for both sides, as they fill the bottom portion of arguably the most difficult group in the league – City being third with one point from a draw and a loss and Ajax being last with zero points from two losses.
Evading defeat will be the main objective of Ajax and Manchester City in the match. Both are currently unbeaten in their domestic leagues this season, although their current standings in the Champions League reflect that they are both struggling to succeed in the group stage.

City have not yet played past through rival Dutch side Ajax yet, although they fare better as favourites in the Champions League with one draw from their match against Borussia Dortmund. Confronted with a challenge to qualify this time compared to their failed bid last season, they possess a strong forward force manned by the likes of Edin Dzeko, Carlos Tevez and Sergio Aguero – good enough to penetrate the weak defence of Ajax that has already conceded five goals in the competition.
